MENTONE BEACH

Public BBQ

Mentone Beach delivers that quintessential Melbourne coastal experience without the crushing crowds of its more famous neighbours. The shallow waters make it brilliant for families. Kids can splash about safely while parents actually relax. The recent 12 million dollar upgrade to the life saving club shows, with pristine facilities including showers and a cafe that doesn't charge tourist prices. What sets this place apart is the dedicated off-leash dog beach stretching towards Mordialloc. Watching the local pups have their morning constitutional while you sip coffee on the boardwalk is oddly therapeutic. Free parking along Beach Road is a godsend. The sand gets a bit churned up in the dog section, but there's plenty of pristine beach beyond. You can paddle board, kite surf on windy days, or simply enjoy the sunrise-to-sunset views. Mentone proves that sometimes locals know best about keeping Melbourne's beaches relatively undiscovered.
